Year 2000 was a watershed year for me. I was diagnosed with SLE that year. Ironically, I started the year resolving to work harder and to earn more money. Unfortunately, increased workload translated into increased stress. I began to suffer severe migraines almost daily...more
|Choosing the Appropriate Foundation Garments|
To choose undergarments that are best suited to your figure, please consult the following checklist.
1. Do not determine your size according to an approximation.
Many customers buying undergarments tend to say "give me a medium size" or "my size has been the same for several years" or "the same brand and size as what I am wearing now will do". Do you recall saying similar things without reconfirming your size and buying products by approximation? Though your weight may remain the same, your figure may be changing. Consequently, you should never buy undergarments based on an approximation of your size.
2. Know your body and figure.
Your figure is the result of your lifestyle and which may change over time. Though you may be the same size, your shape, habits and characteristics may have changed, as might have your muscle or fat distribution and volume! Even those who are active in sports develop different muscles according to their current sporting pastime. We recommend that you set up a full-view mirror in your bathroom and take a good look at yourself to familiarize yourself with your figure.
3. Measure your size everytime you buy new foundation garments or lingerie
It is a misconception that a "certain maker is no longer suitable" because its new product fits differently today compared to when you bought the same style 6 months ago. As your figure changes by the days and seasons, it is crucial that you do not assume that your figure has remained the same. You must regularly measure yourself. Given that it is difficult to measure your own size, we advise that you have a salesperson measure you at their store. Remember, the major cause of misfitting undergarments is that the product was purchased without the customer measuring her current size.
4. Do not choose undergarments according only to your preference for their appearance and design.
We all know that undergarments are attractive pieces of attire. However, it is inappropriate to choose these products solely based upon how good they look. Your preference for lace or colour should come second. The most important considerations associated with choosing undergarments are their function and feel. Start off by checking the size, pattern and other functional aspects of the undergarments. Then, consider the style and attractiveness of the product. Finally, ask yourself whether you have chosen an undergarment well suited to your body.
5. Designate a favourite store and salesperson
Ideally, you should have your own private consultant. Foundation garments should be chosen with the advice of a professional who is well aware of your body's characteristics and habits. These consultants often keep records of your previous size and preferences purchased and they are trained to give proper advice based on their background. They will also keep you in mind when they receive new products.
* No two women are alike. Though they may share the same size, different body shapes and bone structure can affect the overall look and shape of their breasts.
Size is important; fitting is crucial.
Okay, so your size is right and you have been given some advice. Great! However, you have not finished yet. Although you may have the right size bra, bras come in various designs (patterns, specifications, finish), so, though its size may be correct, the bra you have selected may not fit you comfortably.
1. Do not neglect or omit procedures.
Don't neglect the fitting process because you see it as a hassle, or because you feel self-conscious requesting a fitting. You will never encounter your perfect fit if you keep buying what you're used to buying and it doesn't fit you properly.
2. Fit the undergarment and move around in it.
Once you try the undergarment on, raise both arms, bend your knees and generally move around to see if you feel comfortable.
3. Try 2 or 3 items on instead of just one.
Try on a couple of items made of different fabrics and in different designs, because though the sizes will be the same, every product will have a different feel and will fit your shape differently.
4. Ask the salesperson
Have the sales personnel see how the product fits you; and tell them that you expect to receive professional advice.
5. Bring along the clothes that you want to wear over your new undergarment.
If you are choosing your undergarment to match a new item in your wardrobe, bring along the item to see how it fits and feels with the undergarment.
CARING FOR YOUR FOUNDATION GARMENTS
You wear your undergarments close to your body so it is important to keep them clean. Care must be given to gently protect them from the rigours of prolonged use, even more so than the care given to clothes. Gentle and careful handling is crucial. There are several measures you can take prior, during and after washing to maintain your undergarments at their best.
Wash them regularly
It is most important to keep your undergarments clean. Impurities are not only dirty, but they also inhibit air exchange, moisture absorption, softness and may damage the fabric.
It is important to wash these items regularly. Luxury items like lingerie maintain their quality as long as they are cared for properly. Take particular note that as undergarments are usually made of fine, thin and soft materials, you must be careful when putting them on and taking them off. Be especially careful that your fingernails don't damage the fabric!
